Beautiful Morning As Students Begin
Fall School Term, Across Hopkins County

by: Bobby McDonald

It was up early and a beautiful sunrise that greeted school students all across Hopkins County as they began the 2010-11 school year. Pink reflections and fluffy clouds formed in the east, as many students began their morning, getting ready to board a school bus, for delivery to their school destination.

Many of us can remember "catching the school bus" as it made its way to our drive and soon we were "chatting" with neighborhood kids, with anticipation of the new year. Personally, I remember being the first one on the school bus, in those early morning adventures, when we caught the bus at 15 minutes until 7:00 and traveled the "backroads" of the community, gathering kids....the Fishers, the Scarboroughs, the Sartins, the Lynches, and others, who rode my school bus into town. Common bonds of living the maxium distance from school, united us all, and created a world of memories. Many of us "half staggered" in sleep, for the long day that awaited us, in Sulphur Springs, and we all gathered together for the return trip, in the afternoons.

These four students were awaiting the school bus on Hwy-154, Monday morning and
represent students all across Hopkins County. Left to right, Samuel Delaune, a sixth-grader,
Jessica Root, an 11th-grader, Alan Woolverton, a first-grader, and Randal Root, an
eighth-grader, are prepared for the challenges ahead, this year.

I dare say, most of us weren't too worried about the sunrises, as we got on the bus, and we were more concerned with which teacher we would have, would they assign much homework, and which friends would be in our class. However, outside our windows, the landscape was "coming alive" for another day in Hopkins County, as we passed farms, gardens, and homes, where others joined us, on the trip to Sulphur Springs.

Monday, morning found students in the same venue, anticipating new teachers, new classmates, and the beginning of a new year, full of challenges and experiences.

This is wishing each student success in the coming year and many days of excitement and learning, as they enter their new school year.

Many students in Hopkins County were accompanied by their parents, on the first day of school.
