These Sulphur Springs FFA students were exhibiting their shop projects at Saturday's show.
It was a large group of parents and supporters, who made their way to the Hopkins County Regional Civic Center, on Saturday to watch as FFA members showed their projects in the annual FFA Project Show. The exhibition began at 11:00 a.m. and featured livestock projects, horticulture projects, and ag mechanics projects. Students received ribbons for their placings and Grand Champions were selected.

Then, at 5:00 p.m., one of the best parts of the annual event, began. It was the annual Ice Cream Supper, where "all-you-can-eat" homemade ice cream was being served to those who came out for Saturday night's auction in the Civic Center.
The FFA Auction began promptly at 6:00 p.m., featuring items donated by local businesses, horticultural projects from the high school greenhouse, and a number of shopmade projects that students had constructed in ag mechanics classes. "We have a large selection of picnic tables, household decorating items, and just about anything you would want for the farm and home," advised Vocational Agriculture Instructior Dan Froneberger.

"The students work all year constructing projects in the shop, such as gates, feeders, picnic tables, and other items, for the auction." advised Dannie Johnson, another of the local instructors. "It's truly a reflection of the many hours that these students spend constucting projects. There's a 'little bit of everything' for the auction!"
Amber Norris, another local instructor and head of the horticulture department stated, "Our students have been growing ferns, geraniums, petunias, and a variety of plants for the auction, all semester. It's our opportunity to show the community, just what we do all season, in the greenhouses, so we make certain that the plants are of superior quality!"

Saturday night's auction, which found local supporters bidding on a number of items, featured the way that the chapter pays for their many trips to district, area, state, and national conventions and contests. "The money we make at the annual auction provides the funds to host banquets, make trips, and teach the leadership skills that are so important in learning," expressed Johnson. "It's a great way to show everyone the many, many activities that the chapter is involved with, throughout the year!"
Wade Bartley, shown above, and Jeff Massey volunteered their services while serving as
auctioneers for the auction. Both are former members of the Sulphur Springs FFA.
