On February 17, 2010, a 19 year old man from the Birthright Community, came to the Sulphur Springs Police Department reporting that he'd been robbed, his wallet taken, and beaten in the Walmart Parking Lot, by three perpetrators on bicycles. The young man filed the report with local officers, asking for help in recovering his property and the apprehension of the suspects.

After a thorough investigation by the local officers and a re-questioning of the reported victim, it was determinied that the entire episode was a hoax and that no such crime had been committed. In fact, the young man was not even in the parking lot of the local Walmart Store, when the crime was reported. The young man confessed to officers that the entire incident was "made-up."

"The young man has been charged with filing a false report to a peace officer and has made arrangements to turn himself in, to the local police office on Friday," related Sgt. David Gilmore. "This is a serious offense and we don't take it lightly when someone reports something like this, that never happens. It ties our officers up, when they could actually be working on a crime that has happened!"
