Saturday's Fall Festival Parade
Celebrates Freedom and Honors Fallen Heroes
by: Bobby McDonald
Jimmy and Dena Lloyd were recognized as Parade Marshals before Saturday's parade and
led the event down the streets of Sulphur Springs, in memory of their son, Chad Lloyd.
The skies were cloudy, but the rain "held off" until the 41st Annual Hopkins County Fall Festival Parade could wind it's way through Sulphur Springs, with flag waving and resident and participants in the parade celebrating our nation's freedom and honoring fallen heroes. With the parade on the ninth anniversary of 9-11, Jimmy and Dena Lloyd parents of Chad Lloyd, who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom, led Saturday's parade as Parade Marshals. They rode in a red Hummer and waved to the crowd, as those along the streets waved flags!
"We didn't seem to have as many floats, this year," exclaimed one witness.
However, with eight young ladies vying for the Cover Girl title, each of them had decorated a conveyance and several businesses in town had their own decorated floats. The parade brought excitement with local politicians, dance groups, and a bevy of firemen with their fire trucks, as well as horses, antique tractors, and nursings homes completed this year's entries.
Winners in Saturday's parade, among the entries included:
Overall Winner - Rock Creek
