Christmas Art Contest

Are you ready for Christmas? Well, it's time to start thinking about one facet of the holiday, as the Downtown Business Alliance makes plans to sponsor a county-wide Christmas Art Contest. $500.00 in prize money is to be awarded to the top three pieces of art, entered in this contest. But, you must get busy and get entered, or you can't win the prize. Entries must be submitted by 3:00 p.m. Monday, November 1st, at the Hopkins County Chamber of Commerce Office.
Winning entries are to be used on banners around the downtown area of Sulphur Springs, as decorations during the holiday season. Wouldn't it be neat to see your art displayed throughout the holiday season in the downtown area? Well, get creative and start to work on your entry!

Guidelines for Participation
1. Description of Contest
The 2010 Christmas Art Contest is designed for residents of Hopkins County to create Christmas art. Selected artwork will be digitized and imprinted on pole banners for display in the downtown area during the Christmas season. Some winning entries may be placed on holiday greeting cards and may also appear in publicity and other promotions for the current and future Christmas seasons. The first place winning art for 2010 will be used as the official holiday greeting card for the Sulphur Springs DBA in 2011.
The general public will cast ballots to choose the winning entries. Each person casting a ballot will be entered in a drawing for a gift. Ballots may be picked up at participating downtown merchants and must be deposited in the ballot box at participating downtown merchants (identified by a poster in their window) by:
3:00PM on Wednesday, December, 15.
Rules:
• The art should be in color and on poster paper cut to 11” wide x 17” tall with the finished art size being 6.75”wide x11” tall. (the image size allows for print scaling to fit the pole banners)
• Art should be submitted flat. No folded pieces are accepted.
• The art can be in colored pencils, crayons, felt tip markers or paint.
• Entries that use additional materials to create 3D effects will not be accepted.
• No letters or numbers may be included in the artwork.
• Only one original artwork may be submitted per person.
• The artist’s first and last name must be neatly printed on the back (not the front) of the artwork. A copy of the completed registration/consent form must be attached to the back of the artwork with invisible tape.
• Artist under the age of 18 must provide written consent of parent and/or legal guardian(s).
• Artwork may be used for publicizing the DBA and the City of Sulphur Springs.
• Judging will be by the general public via ballot.
• Ballots may be picked up at participating downtown merchants and must be returned, in person, to participating downtown merchants (identified by a poster in their window).
2. Sponsors
The Sulphur Springs DBA sponsors this contest. Additional sponsors may be added.
3. Eligibility
The contest is open to Hopkins County residents of all ages. Artist under the age of 18 must provide written consent of parent and/or legal guardian(s) to participate in the Christmas Art Contest. Submissions that are not accompanied by properly signed and completed registration/consent forms may result in disqualification.
Submitted artwork will be reviewed by a committee of the DBA. Entries for the contest will be selected from submitted artwork based on the following criteria:
• Creativity
• Artistic merit
• Theme/season communication
4. Contest Period
All contest entries for 2010 must be received by:
3:00 PM on Monday, November 1, 2010
Judging for 2010 will be completed by:
3:00 PM on Wednesday, December 15, 2010
5. How to Enter
Contest Guidelines and Registration/Consent Forms can be picked up at the Chamber of Commerce office, Eugene Edwards Used Cars, and The Millennium Shopper.
A completed Registration/Consent Form, signed by the artist or the artist’s parent or legal guardian(s), must accompany each piece of art submitted. All entries must be delivered to:

6. Judging and Selection of winners
Selected entries will be judged by the general public. First, second, and third place prizes will be awarded to the artwork receiving the most votes.
Up to five winners will be chosen by the DBA to be published as Christmas Greeting Cards.
7. Prizes
The Christmas Art Contest winners will receive:
First Place: $ 250.00
Second Place: $ 150.00
Third Place: $ 100.00
In addition, each contest entrant’s name will be entered in a drawing for a gift.
Each person casting a ballot will be entered in a drawing for a gift.
8. Media
By participating in this contest, you agree and grant the Sulphur Springs DBA permission to use and make your submission available to the public for any purpose, such as, but not limited to, press and media communications, without compensation to you. You also agree to participate in any media or promotional activity regarding the contest.
