Weekend Rains "Dampen" Garage Sales
at Dike, Mahoney, & Flora
by: Bobby McDonald

This "traffic jam" had travel at a stand-still on one county road near Dike, Saturday.
Autumn was in the air and it was the annual weekend for "miles and miles" of garage sales in the Dike, Mahoney, and Flora communities of northern Hopkins County, but the weekend rains "put a dent" in the traffic to those communities. "We did great!" exclaimed one vendor. "But, the rains caused less traffic and some mighty muddy conditions, as shoppers made their way to us!"

Shopping for "treasures" on a rainy Saturday morning.
Many vendors moved their wares into actual garages and set-up tents to house the perishable items, but the rains continued to come. However, country roads in the three communities were "crowded" with traffic jams, almost all day, between the rains!

Wares of all descriptions were offered at over 50 locations in the three communities.

"I don't know what it is that brings us out here for this stuff!" acknowledged one shopper. "I've got a house full of this stuff at home, and should be conducting my own sale. But, it's still fun to shop and look!"
The Dike Store was offering a "mighty mean" BBQ sandwich and the company was good, as you sat and enjoyed the lunchtime conversation, with people from all across Northeast Texas. "We come every year, just to visit with the people and see what bargins we can find," expressed one woman from near Clarksville. "It's our chance to get out on a Saturday and a little bit of rain won't slow us down!"

The Dike Store was a great place to enjoy food and friendship.

"Maybe the weather will cooperate a little bit better next year," exclaimed one of the organizers. "We're already planning next year's big sale!"
