In a recent announcement, Craig and Jennifer Roberts, 2010 Lights of Life Gala Chairpersons, made an announcement that the Hospital Foundation Board had chosen the Mamography Department at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital as the beneficiary of the bulk of the funds to be raised in the 2010 campaign. "We're pleased to announce that this vital department of the local hospital will be receiving the majority of the funds raised," expressed Craig Roberts. "This department is expanding and plans to use the funding to purchase a digital mamography machine for more accurate and clearer imaging, when conducting mamograms."

"This is a vital service to all of our community," expressed Jackie Thornton, Director of the Hopkins County Memorial Foundation. "Male or female, the service will aid local women in better detection results, and aid their husbands in saving on travel to other areas to conduct the more accurate tests. It's a win-win situation for everyone!"

"I'm excited to see the strides that the local Mamography Suite is taking," reported Jennifer Roberts. "The department is expanding and offering more services to the women of this community, and that provides for a healthier community and earlier detections of when anything is wrong!"

Adam Larson, Director of Radiology at Hopkins County Memorial reported that the new expansion allows for much faster response time for women scheduling a mamogram. "Unlike before, we can typically provide 'next-day' service," stated Larson. "If a woman calls for an appointment, this afternoon, we can likely schedule a mamogram for tomorrow!"

"And, we now have the capabilities to do ultra-sound and breast biopsies," inserted Karen Bailey, Lead Mamographer at Hopkins County Memorial. "This gives us added value in diagnosis for our local physicians."

"And, I want to brag on this department!" exclaimed Larson. "Karen and her staff have just received a State Certificate for standing above all the other departments in the state. They received no defficiencies in their department in the last inspection and were commended for the many, many details that they must perform in actual testing, documentation, and customer service!"

Larson was asked about the addition of the new digital mamography equipment, scheduled for February of 2010, and he responded that the new equipment was to offer clearer images and the ability to perform computer diagnosis, for the physicians requesting the data. "I'd love to be able to tell every woman in the area that the new technology would  prevent breast compression during the testing phase," stated Larson. "However, breast compression is still the most reliable and accurate means of testing, despite the uncomfort that many women experience in the process!"

The 2010 Lights of Life Gala is already in the planning stage, with committees meeting and making decisions on food, decorations, and a variety of other details. The Gala will again be hosted in the Hopkins County Civic Center and is scheduled for Saturday night, January 16, 2010. "Count on a 'touch of pink' in the decorations," expressed Jackie Thornton. "But, you'll just have to buy a ticket to find out anything else!"

"Everyone's excited about the 2010 Lights of Life Gala and Jackie, Craig, and
Jennifer invite everyone to mark their calendars and save the date of January 16, 2010,
for another spectacular event!"
