Cumby FFA members conducted the flag ceremony at Thursday's Veteran's Program.

With flags waving, bands playing, and a number of speeches, Cumby ISD honored the veterans of the Cumby Community, on Thursday morning, in the high school gymnasium. The Cumby FFA opened the morning ceremonies with the presentation of the flags and Mrs. Regina Crowell, presented a "heart-rendering" version of The Star Spangled Banner.

Mrs. Regina Crowell gave a beautiful presentation of The Star Spangled Banner.

Cumby veterans were seated on the gym floor and honored at Thursday's program.

Veterans from the community were seated on the gym floor and introduced, as High School Principal, Tony Martin, who is a veteran himself, gave the keynote address to students and guests. "I don't have to tell these men and women who have served, what Veteran's Day is all about," expressed Martin. "They know! But, it is our duty to teach you students what the price of our freedoms have cost!"

Cumby 8th-grader, Cody Anderson, introduced the morning's speaker as Mr. Tony Martin.

Martin continued his remarks with the fact that the senior class at Cumby was only in the 3rd grade, when 9-11 happened. "Most of you students have lived in a time of war!" stated Martin. "But, we all have to be reminded of the costs that are being paid, daily, for our freedoms and that just like on any team, the life of the soldier is difficult and requires sacrifices, sometimes even the ultimate sacrifice!"

Martin spoke to the students about learning that the world isn't all about
them, and to learn to be of service to our country and to others.

Students and veterans watched a video of a soldier's life in service
to his country.

"In boot camp, we quickly learned that 'it wasn't about us!'" denoted Martin. "And, that is a lesson that each of us must learn to today, it isn't all about us!"

A special video presentation was presented, showing the various aspects of a soldier serving in Iraq.

Then elementary school students presented the veterans with songs and handmade cards, they had created in class.
