"Teachers On a Mission
In Cumby, Friday!!!"
by: Bobby McDonald

These Cumby ISD Teachers formed one of the teams, that went through the city of Cumby
looking for items and meeting the residents, on Friday morning.
It was a fun day for teachers, in the Cumby ISD, on Friday as they were challenged with getting to know their community. As a part of their "in-service" training, teachers were given a list of items on a "team building" list, to find in their community. New teachers in the school system for the 2009-10 year were grouped with some of the veterans and they went out into the community to find the information.

These Cumby ISD teachers approached a residence of one of the School Board members
and almost scared him out of his wits, as he not was expecting their arrival!
Teachers were given disposable cameras and given places in the community to take pictures of....such as the City Hall, Cumby Telephone, Southwest Brokerage, Sweet Thangs Restaurant, and other businesses in the city of Cumby. Bonus points were earned for a picture with the mayor; a picture with a City Councilman; a picture with a Cumby School Board Member; and other such photos. Maximum points were earned when the group found a student who will be attending school in the Cumby ISD for the upcoming year.

Teachers on a mission in Cumby....these teachers were busy looking for items to complete
their scavenger hunt, on Friday morning.
"This was a great way to introduce our teachers to Cumby and the students that they will be teaching in their classrooms," explained Shelly Slaughter. "It was loads of fun and the teachers all felt that it was wonderful team building experience!"

This team of Cumby ISD teachers was the first to arrive back, with their items. They hadn't added up points, yet. But, the
winning team was to be announced at lunch!
"The scavenger hunt was a great way to 'get out on the street' and meet the students, parents, and the people in the community that support our school," allowed teacher, Kendra Dannheim. "It was a fun way of including the community in our school and the many activities that take place during the school year!"
Teachers in the Cumby ISD will continue their in-service training, next week.

This sign awaited the teachers in Cumby ISD, when they arrived for lunch
at the new Sweet Thangs Sandwich Shoppe in Cumby.
