Rain Forces Cumby Halloween Carnival
Inside, But Fun Enjoyed Nonetheless
by: Bobby McDonald
Cumby received heavy rains on Saturday night, thus forcing the many booths of activities at the annual Cumby Halloween Carnival, to move inside the school. "It would have been great and much, much easier to clean-up, if we'd been able to have hosted it outside," remarked several of the teachers. "But, I think everyone had a great time, and the crowd was larger than usual, with most of your outside activities curtailed because of the inclement weather!"
Dart Games, "Go Fishing," and many of your traditional carnival booths, as well as bounce houses, Hopkins County Stew, and a photo booth, provided for a night of activities for all ages. Students lined-up at booths to participate and win prizes.
The annual Halloween Carnival at Cumby School is sponsored by the individual classes, having their own booths. "It provides money for extra activities in our classrooms," allowed one of the Cumby teachers. "We use the money raised to purchase needed materials and extras for the students to enjoy!"
"With the thunder, lightning, and the rains, it's kinda weird outside!" remarked one student. "Just down-right spooky!"

Meanwhile, others were headed up the ladder to slide down the inflatable slide, in the Old Gymnasium.
"Everything is fun and I've won loads of prizes!" remarked another student. "I burst the balloons and they had neat prizes in them!"
For the parents, a booth was available for them to get information about the upcoming Cumby School Bond Election, set for November 2nd. School Board members and personnel were on hand to answer questions and to ask for support of the bond, which will allow the board to re-finance some of the notes, now owed, and to provide for additional funds to make improvements to the Cumby ISD facilities.
