New Construction and Repairs at Cumby
Football Field in Preparation For Season

by: Bobby McDonald

If you've driven by the Cumby Frazier-Lawrence Memorial Football Field, in the past few weeks, you've seen an "army" of workers making repairs and installing new equipment, in anticipation of the 2010 Football Season, that is "just around the corner." "We're using the summer to get the field ready for football season," advised Bill Jenkins, construction coordinator. "Some equipment has been purchased from Cooper ISD and then we're installing new lights, increasing the number of bleachers, and have shaped the field with a 'crown' for better drainage!"

These new stadium lights at the Cumby Trojan Football Field will make
photos and capturing the game easier, come autumn.

"As most people associated with the field know, we'd had a drainage problem for a long, long time," advised Jenkins. "Well, we've gone in and shaped the field, where it will drain and be much more useful and conducive to playing football!"

And, for the ones of us who are familiar with the field, and take pictures, the large lights that are being installed are a real plus. We'll have much better photos with the added lighting, on the field. The field has been plagued with a number of problems, when last year during the annual Homecoming Game, the lights "went out" for a period and play had to be stopped, until repairs were made!"

"It's a source of community pride and it was time that something be done to the field to make conditions more conducive to the winning spirit, we're attempting to emulate in Cumby," continued Jenkins. "We want to provide the kids with a decent playing field and the needed equipment to continue the winning Cumby Trojan traditions!"

So, everyone in Cumby will be excited, for the opening game and the ones of us taking pictures will certainly be looking forward to capturing the Trojans, in action, once the season gets underway!

New drainage for the field and a layer of sod has been installed to make the playing surface
even better for the upcoming season.

Congratulations, Trojans!!!
