social, hosted in the Vo Ag Building.

It was all the ice cream you could eat and plenty of gooey chocolate, pecans, coconut, and just about any kind of topping you could image, as the Cumby FFA hosted their ice cream social and get acquainted night for prospective FFA members, in the Cumby Vocational Agriculture Building, Monday night, at 6:30. "We're setting a goal for having 30 FFA members this year and a host of Junior FFA members," stated Dwight Clifton, Cumby Vocational Agriculture Teacher. "And, tonight's showing of interest looks like we'll maybe even surpass that goal!"

Students learned about the many facets of vocational agriculture projects and the record keeping that accompanies, them, while they enjoyed ice cream and all the toppings. Clifton explained the many projects available to Cumby students in entering the Hopkins County Market Show and told them about the facilities that they would need for a swine, poultry, goat, or lamb project. "You've got to plan ahead and get ready to raise these animals now," warned Clifton. "It's not something that you can get ready for overnight!"

Clifton offered assistance to the students in procuring their animals and allowed that this year the Cumby FFA would be emphasizing leadership skills and judging teams, to prepare the students for all facets of their education. "We want to equip you with the skills to conduct meetings and to learn the skills of public speaking, decision making, and the many other avenues that the program can equip you with," stated Clifton. "We plan on having fun but learning some basic skills as we go about doing it!"

Clifton allowed that the FFA officers have planned on having a fun meeting once a month and including the community in their chapter, as they strive to build numbers and learn the desired skills.

Monday night's meeting was attended by approximately 40 youth and their parents.

And, the best part of Monday night's meeting was eating the ice cream!!!
