Parade and Bonfire Ignite Spirit
In Cumby, Wednesday Night

What better way to promote community pride and school spirit than a parade through downtown and a bonfire near the football field? Well, that's just what happened on a cool autumn night in Cumby, as the Trojans get ready to face the Fruitvale Bobcats, for Friday night's annual Homecoming game. Homecoming King and Queen nominees, the Trojan Football teams, the Volleyball teams, and other students rode down Main Street of Cumby in a loud and colorful parade, as they made their way to the bonfire staging area!

Spirit was high, but the wet wood, that had been piled for the bonfire, presented some problems on Wednesday night, as it was hard to light. "It's one of the first times that as a fireman, I've been called upon to light a fire!" exclaimed one student fireman. "Usually, we're called to put the fires out!"

Using some diesel and a "leaf blower" the bonfire was finally ignited, to the delight of the crowd. However, because of muddy conditions, the chants, cheers, and speeches by the team and school administrators was moved to the school parking lot, where conditions were drier!

The Cumby High School student body will name the 2009 Homecoming King and Queen from sixteen students, representing the four classes, in pre-game activities, on Friday night!
