From figures released by the Sulphur Springs Police Department, overall crime in the city of Sulphur Springs, was down in 2009, from the figures for the same period in 2008. The figures released are as follows:

Sulphur Springs Police Chief, Jim Bayuk, credited the decrease to increased patrols and a hope that most of the criminal element in Sulphur Springs have learned that they will be arrested for offenses and prosecuted for their offenses. "We make every effort to be the eyes and ears of the community and to investigate all reported crimes, to keep our community safe and a peaceful place to live," exclaimed Bayuk. "I want to commend my officers for diligently handling their duties and taking their duties seriously!"
