Hard-Fought Battle Ends in Red Raiders
Defeating Como-Pickton, Friday Night

by: Luis Rasgado

Como-Pickton once again, met up with their arch rival, the Winnsboro Raiders last night at Como-Pickton. The Eagles started the Evening with great Offensive and Defensive tactics making both teams have an even and exciting match. Bryce Steel, "step up" his game and started pressuring the Raiders defensive line. It was barely first quarter, 4th down, ball at the 20 and 10 minutes 26 seconds left on the clock, when the Eagles went "all out" and went for it. Zach Carpenter made a 20 yard complete pass to Poppy Ramirez. "Touchdown Eagles!!"

After a celebrating touchdown the Como-Pickton Eagles left down their guard, causing them to make mistakes. Zach carpenter made 3 passes that were intercepted by Raiders receivers and the defense let the raiders gain yards, putting them in every play close to the goal line.

The Como-Pickton tried to make a come back at the end of the fourth quarter, but they ran out of time making them have a 28 - 17 loss against the Winnsboro Raiders.

In comments about the game, Friday night, Coach Paul Tullis stated:

"It was a tough night for us last night.  We faced some difficulties and never really recovered.  At times we looked really good, but we just had a few breakdowns and Winnsboro did a great job of taking advantage of our mistakes.  We are going to have to be more physical on defense to be successful and our offense is going to have to finish drives.  We had the ball deep in their end a few times and only came out with a field goal.  I thought our 2 minute offense did a great job last night.  We drove down and got a field goal right before half to take the lead and the drove down and scored a touchdown at the end to set up the on side kick.  Tellez had a great kick and Bryce Steele got down there quick and tipped the ball for Trevor Cagle to recover.  We are going to buckle down this week and work hard to right the ship and beat Quitman."

The Como-Pickton Eagles will be traveling to Quitman, next Friday night, to take-on the Bulldogs.
