Joins Fight For Breast Cancer

by: Bobby McDonald

Friday afternoon's match-up between the Como-Pickton Lady Eagles and the Grand Saline Lady Indians marked the beginning of a campaign by the Lady Eagles to fight breast cancer. October is designated as "Fight Breast Cancer Month" and the Lady Eagles join a number of organizations who are planning activities this month.

The Lady Eagles wore pink socks during the game and sold pink t-shirts for $8.00 each to raise funds for a cure. During the intermission between the JV and Varsity games they recognized all members of the audience who had survived breast cancer and breast cancer survivor, Shonda Brewer, addressed the crowd about the dangers of the disease as well as the need for early self-examination. She related that she was only 28 years old when she was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Congratulations to the Lady Eagles on making an impact at their school, as they continue raising funds and awareness of the disease.

Additionally, the Saltillo Independent School District will host a "Pink and Denim Day," on Wednesday, October 7th, as they raise funds for the Susan B. Koman Foundation. They are asking students to wear pink and denim and help them raise funds for a cure.
