Christmas Cheer to Eastern Hopkins County

You could see the taillights of cars all the way to both Como and Pickton, as a spectacular drive-thru Christmas lighting display unfolded at Como-Pickton School on Thursday night, sponsored by the youth and teachers at the school. The first annual Como-Pickton Lighting Display was well organized and brought loads of cheer to the eastern sector of Hopkins County.

I happened to be selected as a judge and there just wasn't any way to select a decisive winner, all the displays were spectacular!

Visitors arrived at the entrance to the football stadium and proceeded around the school, where each class and department had decorated a station to reflect the season. From Santa's very own workshop, to a Feliz Navidad presentation by the Latin Dancers, to the antique tractor covered in lights by the Ag Department, to the Gingerbread House and Peace on Earth settings, to even a Como-Pickton School Bus decked out in lights, every station was spectacular. We even found Santa making an appearance from his very own outhouse and two reindeer advising folks to go duck hunting, instead of deer hunting!

It was a great, great display of lights and Christmas cheer, and then visitor were ushered into the Como-Pickton Cafetorium, where there were Christmas cookies, and a presentation by the Como-Pickton High School Choir, who delighted the audience with Christmas carols.

The following photos are just a sampling of the spectacular event, that had to be attended to get the full effects of the night!

Congratulations to Como-Pickton on starting something that is sure to be a community tradition, now that the word is out!
