A joyous occasion in the Hopkins County Regional Civic Center was enjoyed by students, parents, friends, and teachers as Como-Pickton C.I.S.D. hosted the 8th graduation of the 2010 Class, on Thursday night. Fifty-two students received their diplomas and were challenged with entering their last four years of public school.

The students were spotlighted as they individually walked the isle to the stage, as a processional was played by Como-Pickton student, Seth Sturgill.

 

 

 

Class president, Kendall Bain lead those in attendance in the Pledge of Allegiance and class Salutatorian, Mikaela Jacks, presented the welcome.

Junior High Principal at Como-Pickton, Randy Stuard, presented the top ten students in the 8th grade and the top ten students with a cumulative grade-point average for their three years in the intermediate school grades. He then introduced Jace Sturgill as the class valedictorian and Mikaela Jacks as the class salutatorian.

 

 

Jace Sturgill received laughs and rounds of applause as he recounted a number of the highlights of his classmates during their junior high school years, as he presented the valedictory address. He sited class pranks, words they had learned to use, and a number of exciting things they had learned in band and other school activities.

Como-Pickton Educator, Amy Neal, who has taught the class of 2010 for three of their years, made comments about the class and told them she would be "following them to high school" for their continued math education. She challenged them "to all be sitting in the same seats four years from now" when it comes to their high school graduation. "Having each of you since the fourth grade and loving all of you, I feel compelled to challenge each of you to 'stick with it' and complete you high school education," expressed Neal. "I don't want to even think that one of you wouldn't meet that goal!"

 

 

Patsy Evans, School Counselor, called the roll of 52 students, as School Board Member, Beth Hankins, presented each student with their diploma.

Students exited the stage, as family and friends shouted cheers, and the processional was played. Then a round of photos were snapped in the foyer of the Civic Center, as the class prepared to leave for a graduation party at The Lodge.
