Como-Pickton FFA Officers Leave
For Leadership Camp, Monday Morning
by: Bobby McDonald
You had to be up awfully early to get ahead of the Como-Pickton FFA Officers, as they arrived at school on Monday morning, at 7:00, to leave for a three-day Officers Training Camp, to be held in Broken Bow, Oklahoma. The students were scheduled to meet the Winnsboro FFA officer team and travel to Oklahoma, where they will spend three days working on chapter projects and planning a co-chapter sponsored event, for the upcoming year.
"We'll have some time for rafting on the river and other fun, but the main emphasis at this year's camp is to plan an event that will be sponsored by the two chapters in a joint efffort," explained Vocational Agricultue Teacher, Michael Bowen. "This is the second year that we've partnered with the Winnsboro Chapter and it gives our officers the added advantage of learning to work and plan with youth from another area. They will work on all the details for a co-sponsored event, such as a field day, a fundraising effort, or something that they would like to share responsibility with the other chapter!"

"Rafting sounds like one of the highlights of the trip," expressed Tanner Potts, a sophomore Como-Pickton member, on the team. "I know we'll learn all about our duties as officers, but floating down the river will be fun too!"
Senior member of the Como-Pickton Team, Mike Lagerschaar, was also looking forward to the opportunity to get in a canoe and "meet the river." "It is fun to work with the members of the Winnsboro FFA, and to plan all of our activities for the upcoming year," but the river rafting is especially fun," expressed Mike. "It becomes quite a challenge and something that you bring back home as a great experience!"
The Como-Pickton FFA Team will return on Wednesday night, with a full schedule of plans for the 2010-11 school year at Como-Pickton High School.
