Cover Girls Excel in
Four More Events, Thursday Night
by: Bobby McDonald

"This is where you begin!" states Kayla Phillips as she demonstrates
to contestants how to milk a cow, on Thursday night.
There were no known "casualties" on Thursday night, in the Hopkins County Regional Civic Center, as the four young ladies competing for the Cover Girl crown entered their second night of timed competition. Events slated included: milking a cow, saddling a horse, bottle feeding a baby calf, and the "ever dreaded" cutting-up a chicken. And, I'm happy to report that all candidates survived with all ten fingers in-tack and there was no signs of blood!

Most gratifying was the return of Contestant #1, Hilary Harrington, who was able to compete, despite her meeting with a wayward calf, during the Calf Scramble on Tuesday night. "I'm still sore and my leg still hurts when I walk on it," was the report from Hilary.

However, it didn't slow her down in saddling and mounting a horse and proved just a little bit tender, when she kneeled to milk her cow!

After completing the four events on Thursday night, all of the timed events are over for this year's competition. Cover Girl candidates will accompany 2008-09 Cover Girl, Kayla Phillips, to booths at the Fall Festival and events on the grounds of the Hopkins County Civic Center, on Friday, as they serve as special ambassadors for Hopkins County. "We want the girls to 'mix and mingle' with the people of Hopkins County," explained Kayla Phillips. "That's the single most important factor in fulfilling the duties of Fall Festival Cover Girl. The winner will be required to go out and meet the public, share experiences, and welcome people to Hopkins County, throughout the next year, as she wears the title!"

"Now you've got to luv' that chicken!" explains Cover Girl
Kayla Phillips as she demonstrates to the candidates how to
cut a chicken into 11 parts!

All four candidates seemed to be "willing and able" to perform their duties and quite poised in meeting people and asking for their signatures. So, no problems should surface for any one of the talented young ladies. Best of Luck to all of them! The new 2009-10 Cover Girl will be named during the concert on Saturday night!
Best of Luck,
Cover Girl Candidates!!!
