Four Young Ladies Vying
For 2009 Cover Girl Crown

The Fall Festival Cover Girl contest has 4 contestants this year. The Cover Girl activities will begin on Wednesday, September 9th, with the annual Cover Girl Dinner at Plain and Fancy. This dinner is for the contestants, their mothers and the media. They will participate in the parade at 10 am on Saturday, September 12th, with each girl on an individual float. The float must depict the eight events the girls will compete in for the title. On Tuesday, September 15th, the first night of Cover Girl competitions will begin at 6pm in the Civic Center arena. The girls will compete in goat tying, roping a steer head, calf scramble and driving a tractor through an obstacle course. On the second night of competition, Thursday, September 17th, at 6pm in the Civic Center arena, the girls will compete in bottle feeding a calf, milking a cow, saddling and mounting a horse and cutting up a chicken.
The Cover Girl contestants will be introduced at the God, Country and Rock & Roll concert,during intermission between the acts of The Big Beats and The Joshua Experience. The winners of the various displays, Miss Congeniality, ticket sales and the title of the new 2009-2010 Cover Girl winner will be announced at this time also. The winner will receive a $750 scholarship, a $100 Visa gift card and a $50 Savings Bond. First runner-up will receive a $500 scholarship, a $75 Visa gift card and a $50 Savings Bond. Second runner-up will receive a $50 Visa gift card and a $50 Savings Bond. Third runner-up will receive a Visa gift card and a Savings Bond, also.
The reigning 2008-2009 Cover Girl, Kayla Phillips, is the daughter of Micheal and Karen Phillips of Brashear. Kayla is a Senior at SSHS.She is active in Hopkins Co. 4H, FCA, Spanish Club and works in the church nursery. Kayla is a Lady Wildcat on the basketball and track team. After graduation she plans to attend Tarleton State Univ. to get a degree to teach Math and become a coach or personal trainer.

four young ladies who are vying for this year's title, on the
steps of the Hopkins County Courthouse.

#1- Hilary Harrington- A Junior at SSHS, is the daughter of Tony and Patty Harrington of Sulphur Springs. Hilary is involved with the Hopkins County Teen Court, Varsity Choir and Student Council.
Hilary’s window display is at Brumley’s Uniforms on the west side of the square. After graduation, Hilary plans to go to college and get a degree in Music. She would like to become a Music teacher or go professional.
#2-Katelyn Morehead- A Junior at Cumby High School, is the daughter of Sheila McQueen and Buddy Morehead. Katelyn is involved in the National Honor Society, Teens in the Drivers Seat, a church youth group, a food bank volunteer and is Miss Cumby 2009.
After graduation, she wants to attend college to be able to work with special needs children.
#3- Amy Rivera- A Junior at North Hopkins High School, is the daughter of Lorenzo and Herlinda Rivera of Birthright. Amy is involved in the BETA Club and is also a Lady Panther on the Volleyball and Track teams. After graduation, Amy wants to go to college to get her teaching degree to become a bilingual teacher.
#4- Ashley Wilburn- A junior at SSHS, is the daughter of Gina Gainer and John Wilburn of Sulphur Springs. Ashley is involved in the First Baptist Youth Choir, Chess Club, Student Council, Key Club, Spanish Club and Athletics. After graduation, Ashley plans to go to Baylor University to pursue a Pre-Med degree.
The Cover Girl event is being sponsored by Pogue Cattle Co., Northeast Texas Farmers Co-Op and Broadway Veterinary Hospital. Coordinator for the Cover Girl contest is Tracy Dennis.
