It was a large crowd of Sulphur Springs and Hopkins County residents that made their way to downtown Sulphur Springs, on Thursday afternoon, to mark the opening of Connally Street, as they celebrated with music, food, and fun. "I think the ones of us with offices and shops on Connally Street are the most happy of anyone in the crowd," advised on Connally Street Business Owner. "It's surely been a long, long period of construction, and we're so excited to finally be able to host business in a 'normal' fashion!"

The official ribbon was cut by Gina Law, who has her office on Connally Street and was among one of those most excited about the street being re-opened.

"It will take us a while to get accustomed to the new lanes on the square and to 'figure-out' how to navigate the downtown area!" advised another city resident. "It seems like everytime you come to the square there is something different to navigate, but they say it's progress!"

"Connally Street is beautiful, just like Main Street," advised another observer. "Let's just hope that business follows the plan that has been formed and some of the buildings in the downtown area can 'get a face-lift' to match the streets!"

Local banks brought their grills and provided delicious food, while live music played and those in attendance visited in a party atmosphere, celebrating the opening of the street.

Rita Edwards, former President of the Downtown Business Alliance, and her husband, Eugene, drove the first antique car down the street, followed by Roger Elliott, who took the newly crowned Hopkins County Cover Girl, Tori Cotton, "for a spin!"

Thursday afternoon's celebration began at 5:00 p.m. and ended at approximately 7:00.
