Family Violence Perpetrator Apprehension

Report from SS Police Department

Screams from a woman in the parking lot of the VF Factory Outlet, on Wednesday afternoon, resulted in a man nearby calling 9-11 and the man who was assaulting her being arrested by Sulphur Springs Police. The unidentified woman was being assaulted by a man and screamed for help. A local citizen heard the screams and alerted police, and then made a citizens arrest, and held the suspect at gunpoint until police arrived.

According to Captain Colyer, with the Sulphur Springs Police Department, the citizen did "everything right." He notified the local police and held the suspect until we could arrive. "He (the man from Point, TX) had a registered firearm and used it to hold the suspect until our officers could get there," detailed Colyer. "It's the things we teach in our citizens classes and he acted in a way that no one was harmed!"

The suspect was arrested on a charge of assault family violence and was a convicted felon, from Midlothian, Texas, who has a history of such acts.
