Circus Comes to Civic Center,
Thursday Night
by: Bobby McDonald
Children of all ages enjoyed Thursday night's circus performance in the Hopkins County
Civic Center.
It was children of all ages, many accompanied by their parents, that enjoyed a night "under the big top," in the Hopkins County Civic Center, when the Gatti Circus made an appearance in Sulphur Springs. Children and parents braved the cold and rain, to see circus performers complete a number of tricks, stunts, and entertaining endeavors, as they introduced elephants, ponies, and other variety props for the Thursday night performance.

At halftime intermission of the show, children were given the opportunity to ride the elephant, slide down a slide, and even have their photo taken with a large, live snake.
Traditional circus food of caramel apples, snow cones, peanuts, and cotton candy were available from vendors.

"The kids love it!" exclaimed one parent, as she helped her children off the elephant ride. "They especially liked the women who did the flying rope tricks and the man and his partner riding the motorcycle on the tight wire!"
"My son enjoyed the elephant ride and thought it was cool to have his photo taken with the snake!" exclaimed one Cumby resident. "I told him he could do it, but I wanted no part of being anywhere near that snake!"
Thursday night's performance proved to be an exciting time for Hopkins County children, despite the cold and wet weather outside.
