"Beach Combers and Horse Lovers Unite"
Chincoteague Island Vacation Destination
by: Bobby McDonald

Look no further than Virginia's quaint Chincoteague Island, made famous by Marguerite Henry's Misty of Chincoteague books, for an unforgettable beach combing experience, with plenty of things to do, for the entire family. Beautiful scenery, pristine beaches, exotic sunsets, and the famous 2010 Chincoteague Island Pony Swim, that celebrates its 85th Anniversary, and you have the perfect island "get-away!"

This year's 85th Annual Chincoteague Island Pony Swim is scheduled for July 28, 2010 and the Chincoteague Island Pony Auction will take place the following day at the Firemen's Carnival Grounds. The historic ponies will swim from Assateague Island, where they have been "rounded-up" by the Saltwater Cowboys, and swim across the channel to Chincoteague Island, in the famous swim.

But, the famous Pony Swim is only part of the Chincoteague Island experience.....beach combing, shell hunting, awesome sunrises and sunsets, bicycle riding on the beach, and a host of other activities are available for the entire family, as well as swimming or sunbathing on the beach, bird watching, photographing the scenes, and enjoying fine dining at a number of restaurants that offer an array of seafood delicacies. You're certain to enjoy the island experience and have a wonderful trip to remember, when choosing Chincoteague Island.

Enjoy the following photos from last year's trip to the Pony Swim and the Island and check the Chincoteague Island Chamber of Commerce's website for an update on all of the many, many things to do on the island!
