"Roasted Chicken For Sale in Reilly Springs"
Poultry Barn Fire Destroys Structure,
Sunday Night
by: Bobby McDonald
Folks in Reilly Springs were joking that you certainly could get "roasted chicken" in their community, on Monday morning. But, it was no laughing matter for Mack and Carla Walters, Poultry farmers, on Hopkins County Road 1439, shortly after 10:00 p.m., on Sunday night, when they realized that one of their barns was on fire. The call came into the Hopkins County Fire Department at 10:12 p.m., and when firemen arrived the 30' X 300' structure was totally engulfed in flames. Additional help was called from Brinker, Como, Arbala, Pickton, Yantis, and Coke Fire Departments to extinguish the fire and contain it to the one building. "The poultry buildings on the farm are located close to each other and it was our concern to try to contain it to just the one house," expressed a spokesman for the Hopkins County Fire Department. "We managed to do that and keep it from spreading to other buildings!"

Firemen were on the scene until 1:35 a.m., Monday morning, and the building was a total loss. The building was occupied by chickens and cause was suspected of being electrically related.
"We want to thank all of the fire departments and the neighbors who came and helped with the fire, late Sunday night!" exclaimed the Walters.
