Have you purchased your stew tickets yet?
Would you like to be able to go straight to the service tents on the 19th and not have to stand in line to purchase a ticket? Then get your stew tickets early…Stew tickets are on sale at Alliance Bank, City National Bank, Guaranty Bond Bank, Pilgrim Bank, Texas Heritage National Bank and the Chamber office! Once again, tickets are only $5 for all-you-can-eat, which includes cheese and crackers and children under 5 eat FREE!

Our Local Banks and the Current Economy, How are they Doing?
The Downtown Business Alliance will be not only hosting their monthly meeting, Monday, September 14th at 5:30pm at Plain and Fancy, but will also be offering a fascinating program from our local banks, beginning at 6:30pm. The program will include our local bankers speaking about the current economic climate and how it has or has not affected them and how they have adapted accordingly. This should be a very interesting program, so please make plans to attend!
Hopkins County Fall Festival—September 12th-19th
The Fall Festival will kick off, on Saturday, September 12th with the traditional parade at 10am! If you want to participate in the parade, please contact Susan Neal at 903-945-2722. Also, as you travel around town, make sure to pick up your duck race tickets. The duck race will take place immediately following the announcement of the Stew Contest winners! This year, the Fall Festival has introduced a couple of new events to the week of festivities, including the Baby Crawling contest and the Hot Dog Eating Contest. Ribbon Cutting for Jordan Health Services, Wednesday, September 16th at 8:30am

The Ambassadors will be hosting a ribbon cutting for the new Bar BQ restaurant—Buck’s Bar BQ, located at 2556 S. Hwy 19 at noon on Tuesday, September 29th. Please join us as we welcome them to Hopkins County and to the Chamber of Commerce.
Business After Hours—Thursday, September 24th—Civic Center at 5:15pm
The Hopkins County Regional Civic Center will be celebrating its 30th Anniversary with a Business After Hours Mixer on September 24th from 5:15-6:15. Please make plans to attend…it is a great opportunity to meet new business folks, catch up with old friends and also congratulate the civic center on 30 fabulous years.
Not only will we be celebrating the anniversary, but we will also bid farewell to one of the key staff members at the Civic Center. Curtis Buchanan will be retiring after 18 years of service at the Civic Center, so we want everyone to come out and wish him a happy retirement!
2009 Household Arts Contest—Entries are being accepted now!
If you would like to enter an item in the Household Arts Contest that will take place during the Fall Festival, please take your entries to the Texas AgriLife Extension Office, 1200 Houston Street between 8:30 & 4:30 pm, until September 16th. Items may also be taken directly to the high school Thursday, the 17 or Friday the 18th. If you have any questions, please contact Johanna Hicks at 903-885-3443.
Register now for the “Cooking Well with Diabetes” series at the Extension Office
If you have diabetes or would like to learn to prepare healthier meals, this class is for you. It will include recipe demonstrations, materials, samples, and door prizes. The cost is only $10 which covers all 4 classes. The class will take place on September 21, 24, 28 and October 1st and is limited to the first 25 people.
