Catfish Parade Is "Traffic Stopper"
In Yantis, Saturday

Members of the Yantis Volunteer Fire Department gave all of their trucks a "spit shine" on Saturday
morning, in anticipation of Saturday's Catfish Parade.

"There must not be anyone at home in the small town of Yantis!" commented one local resident. "Because, they are either out on the street watching the parade or in the parade itself!"

Yantis Mayor, Jerry Miller, and City Secretary, Tonya Norris, waved to the crowd, in Saturday's 6th Annual
Catfish Parade, conducted at 4:00 p.m.

And, it was truly a "traffic stopper," as all through traffic on Highway 154 and Fm-514 were stopped for the parade, as it made its way through Yantis, beginning at 4:00 Saturday afternoon. At the completion of one of the largest parades in the six year history of the event, everyone made their way to the Yantis School Cafeteria, where catfish, hushpuppies, French fries, coleslaw, red beans, and all the trimmings, as well as desserts were ready to be consumed.

"As best we can figure we fed over 800 people and raised over$9500.00 for the Yantis Volunteer Fire Department," reported one member of the department. "It was truly the biggest event we've ever hosted and we couldn't be more pleased!

Members of the Yantis City Council rode this conveyance and served as the Parade Marshals for the event.

The Yantis Catfish Festival continued on Sunday, with another round of fishing on Lake Fork, with fisherman making an attempt to best the record setting fish that Tim Morrows of Lindale, Texas, weighed-in during the first hour of the contest on Saturday. Look for final results, as they become available.
