Michael and Landri Lawrence spend some quality time carving a pumpkin.

Halloween is a little over a week away and it's that time of the year that we all get to thinking about carving a pumpkin. Yes, it can be a "messy" chore, that is best done outside, in the back yard, but it is the ideal project to work with your children or grandchildren to create memories and a family project.

This traditional jack-o-lantern made the perfect way to display candycorn for
a holiday party, but make certain to insert plastic wrap beneath the candy to
keep the moisture from the pumpkin making the candy sticky!

The following designs are some ideas that will aid you in creating your own design. We've attempted to offer several variances, to get you to thinking.

The average pumpkin, when the weather is cool, will last approximately two weeks. You can also add cinnamon and cloves to the inside of your pumpkin to enhance the autumn smells in your home.

Catch that Wildcat Spirit....use you favorite school colors to decorate your pumpkin.
This one designed by Mary Humphrey uses the traditional blue and gold colors.

How about creating your own carousel? Kelly designed this one using map
colors for the poles and added plastic circus animals, but you can use toy
tractors, Hot Wheels, or anything that interests your child!

We've included designs from the very ornate to use as a centerpiece for your autumn table, to those more whimsical designs to create the Halloween theme.

There's nothing left to do, but get out the carving utensils and get started on your very own family project!

And, this beautifully crafted pumpkin, spray painted gold and with wholes drilled in it,
using a common household drill, would be an addition to any autumn decor. Add a
candle inside for a warm glow and cinnamon and cloves to warm your home.

And, children of all ages enjoy helping create a family project, that they participated in!!!!
