"What does C.O.W., stand for? The acronym is for Careers on Wheels and a host of community businesses arrived at Como-Pickton School, on Tuesday morning, to demonstrate the jobs that they do in "keeping our world moving!"  Students went from station to station, as they learned about the various careers that are operated from moving equipment, in our world today.

"It's always a highlight of the year," advised Lydia Walden, Assistant Superintendent at Como-Pickton School. "The students enjoy seeing the equipment and learning about the many, many jobs that require it, in our world today. Their faces 'light-up' when professionals start telling them about the jobs that they do, every day, to keep this old world moving!"

Stations at the career fair included: feed trucks, fire trucks, ambulances and paramedics, milk trucks, backhoe equipment, ladder trucks, and even a septic pumping system. "You're surprised when everyone shows up, just how many occupations are performed from moving trucks, in our society," continued Walden. "It's amazing what all is done using equipment on wheels!"

"From maintaining your home and lawn, to keeping the electricty flowing, to delivering milk and other foods to your table, our world today is a "moving" society, with many, many career choices for the students to enter, once they graduate high school," explained Walden. "It's gratifying to learn that no matter the job, the professionals are always instilling in our students the importance of getting a good education, so that they can excell at whatever job they choose!"

"It takes a broad knowlege of many things and a variety of technical applications to operate this equipment," advised one of the vendors at Tuesday career day. "You've got to understand mechanics and the way the machinery operates to keep it running and in good repair, so that it can perform the job it is intended to do!"

Students at Tuesday's "Careers on Wheels" event had the opportunity to see what kind of jobs were available and learn something about each one of them, as they anticipated choosing occupations in the future.
