Career On Wheels Day Drives Inspiration

For Future Generation

Over 900 students and staff members will get an inside glimpse a vehicle-related careers at the May 25th event.

Como, Texas - Not every great job means wearing a suit, going to an office, or working indoors. Many jobs mean working outdoors, traveling from place to place, helping people, repairing things, building things, and operating different types of highly techinical vehicles or equipment.

Ginny wants to be a paramedic. Jose wants to be a builder. What did you want to be when you grew up? More than 800 students in grades PK-12th grade will receive a hands-on opportunity to explore their dream careers during Como-Pickton's first ever Career On Wheels (C.O.W.) Day. This event is a fun, interactive experience for young and old students alike to feel, touch and learn about various career's involving motor vehicles. C.O.W. Day will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 25th at Como-Pickton School.

From blaring horns to buzzing sirens, the Como-Pickton High School parking lot will be filled with an array of vehicles showcasing multiple careers. Operatiors will give demonstrations and explain what training and/or education they received. Some attractions include a bucket truck, fire engine, mobile crime lab, and an Army Humvee.

"This is an incredible opportunity that will not only introduce young students to many different vehicle-related careers, but also answer older students questions about pursuing some rather interesting fields, "said Laurie Bultl, Counselor at Como-Pickton CISD, "We want to encourage our students that they can be anything they want to be if they, will stay in school, work hard, and show good character."
