Youth groups from all across Northeast Texas joined the League Street Church of Christ, in Sulphur Springs,
for a 30 hour famine, that began at 8:00 p.m., on Sunday night, to raise awareness to homelessness.

Parking lot living.....
If you've driven by League Street Church of Christ, on Monday morning, you're probably wondering if it's a giant garage sale, a flea market, or garbage collection effort. However, the cardboard structures on the lawn represent crude dwellings, constructed by youth groups from all across Northeast Texas, as they conduct a 30 hour fast and experience what it is to live in a cardboard hut, constructed by themselves. It's part of the annual program designed to bring awareness among the youth of what it would be like to be homeless. The youth built their cardboard shelters on Sunday night and spent the night beneath them.
"We've found the program to be very beneficial to our youth," expressed Summer Intern, Lance Tate, who spent the night with the youth on Sunday night. "Going without meals and sleeping in a cardboard box, makes an impression that we can try to tell them about, but fails to 'bring it home' like actually living the experience."

Youth groups from across Northeast Texas joined the League Street Youth, on Sunday night, and began the fast, a series of devotionals, and the construction of the cardboard dwellings. "It's bad enough to go without food and sleep in a cardboard structure," expressed one youth from the Ore City Youth Group. "But, at least we know that we'll be eating something good, as soon as it is over, and we're sleeping right beside all of our friends. I can only imagine what it would actually be like, to be living in these conditions and not knowing where your next meal was coming from!"
A "crude" cardboard shelter provided "home" for youth on Sunday night, as they participated
in a 30 hour famine and "outdoor living" at League Street Church of Christ.

The youth groups have collected money in their communities and will be donating the money to several missions that help to alleviate hunger in different parts of the world.
The League Street Youth group is planning their annual Mission Trip to Alabama, and will be leaving July 10th - 17th! The trip will encompass working with inner city youth in the Mobile, Alabama area.
