Weekend "Get-Away"

A number of scenic drives to Canton abound, this scene was along the road from Yantis, to Alba, and
on to Grand Saline, traveling FM-17.

It's summertime and if most of you are like me, you're looking for somewhere to go and get away from the routine of life. Well, the neighboring town of Canton, offers just such a diversion, this next weekend. They will be hosting the monthly Canton Trades Days, as well as a number of other activities to occupy your time.

Shopping of every description is available at the Canton Trades Days, many in air conditioned buildings, from home decor to antiques, selections of books, hardware, tools, and arts and crafts. Make the Trades Days, one of your destinations for something for everyone.

However, with the summer heat arriving early this year, one perfect place to "stop-by" is Clifton's Orchard, located on Hwy-19. The orchard features the early crop of peaches, blackberries, and the perfect way to "cool-off" with homemade peach and strawberry ice cream, which is a treat for anyone!

Another destination in Canton that you'll certainly want to "check-out" is the Savannah Winery and Bistro, located on the left, once you turn on Hwy-4131    (headed just past The Mountain). The "flavorful" find, is the perfect place for a meal and enjoying the riches of East Texas. Moderately priced, they offer "Pecan Crusted Talapia" that is "out of this world" and served with fresh, buttered, vegetables and homemade breads. A long list of East Texas wines are available by the glass or bottle, or iced teas for those who choose that selection. A wonderful dessert list follows the main course.

Make the short trip to Canton for a great weekend excursion and enjoy the sights and flavors of East Texas.
