Cole Cable Elected State President of
Texas BPA Youth Organization
by: Bobby McDonald
It was another honor for Sulphur Springs High School and the greater Hopkins County Community when SSHS junior, Cole Cable, was elected president of the Texas Business and Professional Association. Cole, the son of Chad and Mary Cable of Reilly Springs and grandson of Lowell and Mary Cable of Sulphur Springs, won the post after competing in a crowd of fourteen individuals seeking the position, from all across the state.
Some 1500 youth attended the State BPA Convention in Austin, where Cole campagined and was elected to the state post. Cole accepted the gavel of the state organization from fellow SSHS student, Whitney Hu, who had served as State President of the organization for the 2008-09 year. Whitney and Cole complete a "first time ever" event for two students from the same school earning the position consecutively.
"I'm looking forward to serving the state BPA organization and all the many people across the great state of Texas, that I will get to meet, at a number of speaking engagements and conferences," allowed Cole, as he came back to school at SSHS. "I also look forward to going to the National Convention, where Whitney will be running for a national office in the organization!"

Cole Cable receives congratulations from Mrs. Brenda McKenzie, at being elected president of the
Texas BPA organization.
Whitney is one of two members from Texas selected to run for a national office. The other individual is a student at Frisco ISD and is a student of Hopkins County native, Jerry Sue Burks Ward.
"We look forward to Whitney having a successful campaign and being selected a national officer, at the convention," allowed Brenda McKenzie, one of the sponsors of the local BPA Chapter. "It's great to have both Cole and Whitney as students and for them to advance in the state and national organizations. That's just a reflection of what dedicated and quality students we have in Sulphur Springs and Hopkins County!"
Cole may have "got his start" at meeting the public, right here at home in the Hopkins County Dairy Festival, as I was researching the 1996 pageant and found that Cole appeared as "Popeye," with Elizabeth Cook, as "Olive Oil," in that pageant. Who would ever have dreamed in 1996 that he would have the lead part in the high school musical "Grease" and now be serving as state president of the Texas BPA organization?
Congratulations Cole and Whitney!!!
