Folks brought their lawn chairs, ate hot dogs and burgers, homemade ice cream and watermelon, and listened to music, in Buford Park, on Sunday afternoon, at the Hopkins County Christian Alliance Independence Day Celebration, as the traditional holiday unfolded. With several song selections from a cache of patriotic tunes, the audience was encouraged to remember the troops who are fighting for our freedoms and to honor those who have protected our nation in previous encounters.

The Christian Country Band, Branded, provided the musical entertainment with an array of favorite selections, that kept the audience entertained during the outdoor celebration. "The weather even cooperated," expressed some of those in attendance. "It's really nice, for a July day, beneath the oak trees and with a breeze blowing. And, the rain yesterday was awfully nice and needed in Hopkins County!"

Grills were "turning out" burgers and hot dogs and many of those in attendance had brought ice cold watermelons and freezers of homemade ice cream to be enjoyed by everyone. "I think I probably gained at least ten pounds," commented one of those enjoying a second bowl of ice cream. "But, you only live once, and homemade ice cream is the perfect way to add those pounds! Don't you think God intended it that way?"

"We just wanted a way to celebrate our Christian blessings and the freedoms we enjoy here in this nation," expressed one of the event organizers. "And, it worked great that July 4th fell on Sunday night, when everyone generally went to church. Who knows, this may become another July 4th weekend tradition in Hopkins County. What better way to celebrate our freedoms than by praising God!"
