Saturday Breast Cancer Walk
Raises Over $12K For Research For Cure
by: Bobby McDonald
Over 800 Hopkins County residents forewent sleeping late on Saturday morning, and made their way to the Hopkins County Regional Civic Center for the 1st Annual "Passionately Pink for the Cure 5K Walk/Run, and in doing so raised over $12,000.00 for research. The event was sponsored by the Family Life Church and monies collected will be donated to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
Before the "gun" sounded, in the race for the cure, former Coach and High School Principal, Chuck King, addressed the group and told the story of how he lost his mother to breast cancer, but that he believed a cure could be found for the disease. He asked the large group to scream "I believe in a cure!" as loud as they could. And, a resounding shot came from those assembled.
Additionally, the Sulphur Springs Wildcats backed the cause, as they used the run as a Saturday morning work-out, and numerous other organizations joined forces to sponsore teams and walk in the race.
