Saturday Is A "Big Day" In Cumby
by: Bobby McDonald

Saturday, May 8th will find our westernmost community of Cumby, all "decked-out" in activities. It's the Annual Black Jack Grove Day, when residents celebrate the founding of Cumby, which was orginally known as Black Jack Grove. Saturday's offering will provide a day of fun, with a "carnival" atmosphere. Theme for this year's event is "Fun and Games in Black Jack Grove."

According to the City Hall in Cumby, the day will begin with a parade, down Main Street, in Cumby, at 10:00 a.m., with antique cars, horse-drawn conveyances, fire trucks, four-wheelers, and floats.

Activities will continue with the serving of a Hopkins County Stew at 11:00 and the Miss Cumby Pageant at 11:30.

Booths provided by Cumby School classes and local organizations will open at 10:00 a.m., and continue throughout the day.

Meanwhile, the Cumby High School Junior Class will be "auctioned off" as servants, in the Annual Slave Auction, to raise money for their senior trip, at 12:30.
Then, at 2:00 the drawing for a number of raffles will take place in the Black Jack Grove Park.

Throughout the day, musical entertainment will be provided for a festive affair. Local groups, "Exit 110," "Main Street Trio," and "Bois 'd'arc Bottom Boys" will headline musical groups performing all day.
Make plans to join the residents, present and past, in Cumby, on Saturday, for a day of fun and entertainment!
