For "The Big Nasty Hog!"

Games of skill and markmanship were enjoyed by all who brought their bows and
tested their skills, on Saturday, at Pine Forest.

If Saturday was any indication, the woods in Northeast Texas are going to be "crawling" with bow hunters, as they attempt to find the biggest feral hog in "these here parts!" Saturday marked the initial entries of the 2nd Annual Big Nasty Hog Contest, and by noon, some 40 entries had already been obtained, with another week to go, for hunters to get entered. Potential hunters arrived at the Pine Forest Community Center where a number of booths, marksmanship games, and huge pots of Hopkins County Stew were cooking for lunch. "The weather is a little bit cold, but not any colder than it will be out in the woods," allowed one of the organizers, Cody Hunt, with Blue Collar Bow Hunters.

"Yep, it's wet and pretty nasty," allowed Jarred Brumley, another one of the organizers. "But, most of these hunters are use to going out in the cold and hunting, so we've got a nice crowd, and are looking for an even bigger contest this year!"

"Willie the Wild Hog," whom Junior Brumley has raised since he was a baby, made his own appearance to the delight of the crowd. "He's just a little ol' hog that likes to be fed donuts!" exclaimed Brumley, as he described the over 300 pound feral hog, that is only two years old. "We got him out in the woods, when he was just a little pig and brought him home and raised him. Now, we hardly know what to do with him!"

"Willie serves as the mascot for The Big Nasty Hog Contest.

"He's just a little ol' pet pig, we found in the woods, who likes donuts
and honeybuns," exclaimed Junior Brumley.

"We want everyone to get their entries in by next Saturday," allowed Hunt. "It's imperative that everyone go to our website and get an official entry form, and get it back to us by next Saturday, February 13th, to be in this year's contest!"

The website of the contest is www.texasbignastyhogcontest.com .

Already entered.....Gene Johnson and Colton Hollis, of Hagansport, "Team Hagan-Man's Reserve,"
left, and Dustin Epps and Jonathan Barker, of Mt. Vernon, "Team Penetration," right, are already
entered in this year's contest.

A variety of hunting supplies were available at Saturday's display of booths, in the Pine Forest
Community Center.

All information about the rules and the entry forms can be obtained via, the website.

Meanwhile, there are loads of other hunters that are already entered and out combing the woods, looking for that big hog, to win the contest!

Big pots of Hopkins County Stew kept everyone warm and filled on a cold and damp Saturday, in Pine Forest,
as a day of fun was enjoyed by all.

This future hunter "sizes-up the competition!"
