S.S.I.S.D. All-Band Concert
Spreads Christmas Cheer, Thursday Night
by: Bobby McDonald
Parents, supporters, and those from the community "packed" the Civic Center Auditorium on Thursday night, when a "standing room only" crowd assembled for the All-Band Christmas Concert. "This large crowd is testimony of the great support that the band receives from this community!" stated Charlie McCauley, as he opened the program with introductions. "You parents and this community are the greatest, and we certainly enjoy working here and with this great group of kids!"
McCauley then told about some of the accolades that the band had received in the past semester and plans for the upcoming contest season, as well as sharing with the audience how on the band trip to Washington D.C. that the hotel manager where they stayed, complimented the band on the outstanding behavior and wonderful conduct! "These are truly outstanding kids and are noticed wherever they go!" continued McCauley.
A "packed" crowd assembled to support the SSISD Bands at Thursday night's concert.

First to perform was the 6th grade band, who have only had their instruments for approximately 90 days, and performed as seasoned professionals. Directed by Steve Proctor, they presented A Christmas Sleigh Ride and Simple Gifts of Christmas.
Directed by Jennifer Turner, the SSMS Gold Band offered the next performance as they presented Sounds of Joy! and Christmas Chimes.

The Sulphur Springs High School Jazz Band performed throughout the program, as transitions between bands were made.
Next on the programs was the SSMS Blue Band, directed by Robert McDaniel, as they presented School Spirit March, Dark Majesty, and Chant and Gloria.

The SSMS Varsity Band, under the direction of Spencer Emmert, then presented Chorale from Jupiter, I Wonder as I Wander, and Christmas Decorations.

Next, McCauley directed the Sulphur Springs High School Band in two numbers, that they'd only had a week to prepare for, amidst Christmas parades, marching seasons, and contest, as they professionally presented Christmas Fanfares and The Many Sounds of Christmas.
"We again want to thank you the parents for supporting your children and the community for their support, as we all strive to develop the musical talents of the youth of Sulphur Springs," stated McCauley, in closing remarks. "And, please contribute to our charity, CASA, as you leave, so that we can help make Christmas brighter for those who depend on us!"
The members of the bands and donations received at Thursday night's concert, allows students to donate $770.00 to the CASA Program, their chosen charity for this year.
