Cheeses, Fruits, and Wine

Are you looking for a special way to host a gathering of friends? The autumn season is the perfect time to celebrate with the rich textures of cheeses and pairing them with your favorite wines and fruits. What could celebrate the season better than offering a selection of cheeses.....goat, sheep, and cow's milk cheeses......add the additional flavors of grapes, pears, figs, apples, and other harvest fruits.....and offer a selection of your favorite wines to enhance the flavors. Really, "the sky's the limit" when making these pairings and offering selections for your guests to try, compare, and rate.

 

 

 

 

If you're like me, you can spend an entire afternoon at Central Market in Dallas, just "sampling" the offering of cheeses. There are the robust flavors of goat's milk cheeses, the more mellow offerings of those made with cow's milk, and the tangy taste of those that begin with sheep's milk. The pallet of tastes are endless, with wonderful varieties to please the taste buds of your guests.

 

 

 

 

 

And, add to that the wonderful flavors of harvest fresh apples and pears, of a number of varieties, and you have a perfect match.

As for wines, yes, tradition says that there are red wines that pair better with certain cheeses, but I like the fresh taste of sweet white wine, and feel that you're remiss if you don't offer your guests the option of trying the flavorful whites, with the offerings of the cheese selections. They add a change of flavors and pair great with some cheeses and fruits.

 

 

 

 

 

Half the fun of any gathering is trying the different tastes and textures of the cheeses with the fruits and tastes of the wines.

 

 

 

 

It's truly a celebration of the harvest, when you offer a selection of great wine, a variety of cheeses, fruits representing the land, and a selection of breads, that come from the bounty of autumn.
