Yantis Senior, Allen Rose, and Junior Ty Davis, reported that they
had a wonderful first day of school, on Monday.

All area schools held first day of classes on Monday and reported a successful start to the 2010-11 School Year. Many reported that they expected more students to enroll in the coming days, but the following were first day student counts across the area:

                                                                                    Middle School - 853

                                                                                    High School - 1032

                                            Yantis ISD -                   360 students

North Hopkins ISD -     453 students

                                            Saltillo ISD -                  255 students

Sulphur Bluff ISD -        228 students

Miller Grove ISD -        239 students

"We won't get a really true count for the year, until right after Labor Day," explained one of the local administrators. "For some reason, it takes until then for many students to get moved into the district and to begin the school year. They are behind, but the trend still continues and we won't have good numbers until then, for the year!"

However, everyone reported "excited" students and of getting most of the preliminary information to students and books issued. "We spent a big part of the day making changes in schedules and attempting to get everyone where they belong," advised one office secretary. "We really don't get much more than that done, on the first day, as we're attempting to get the 'glitches' in scheduling corrected and everyone in the classes they need!"

With hopes for a more routine day on Tuesday, most teachers and administrators, along with the students, were glad to have Monday behind them and looking forward to the remainder of the week!
