Brashear Woman Found Guilty
on Two Counts of Animal Cruelty
From County Court Hopkins County
A Brashear woman, Carol Paselk, was found guilty on two counts of Cruelty to Livestock Animals, in County Court, Thursday. The case was prosecuted by County Attorney Dusty Rabe and local attorney, Steve Lilley was the counsel for the defense.
The four woman, two man, jury found Paselk guilty on the two counts and she was sentenced to 275 days in jail and a $250.00 fine, on one count and 365 days in jail and a $250.00 fine on the other count. Paselk was remanded to County Jail on the 275 day sentence and received probation on the 365 day sentence. Paselk appealed the cases and was appointed a new court appointed attorney for that process.
The charges stem from a Spring 2009 case where some 57 horses were removed from the defendant's farm, located in Brashear, Texas, where she was charged with under-feeding the animals and not providing proper care for the animals. Earlier, Paselk had been in court attempting to get her animals back from the animal rescue groups that had been called to take the animals. However, the animals remained in the care of the animal rescue groups.
