It will be a real treat for members and guest at the regular monthly meeting of the Hopkins County Genealogical Society, on Thursday night, January 21st, when local author, Jim Ainsworth is the featured speaker at the 7:00 p.m. meeting. Ainsworth, who has just completed a new book, "Home Light Burning," will review the book and include some of his research techniques for the latest addition to his growing string of tales.

Ainsworth had conducted an earlier signing for the book, in his hometown of Commerce, back in December, where he offered this latest addition, just in time for Christmas gifting.

Ainsworth, has previously written "The River's Trilogy" that includes "In the Rivers' Flow," "Rivers' Crossing," and "Rivers' Ebb," in which he writes about his family, members of the Rivers Family. Well, in this latest "tale" in the series, he begins with his great-grandfather, Lev Rivers, and his brother, Hy Rivers, as they return to the Corsicana area of Texas, following the aftermath of the Civil War. Ainsworth traces the unrest and perils in Texas during the days of Reconstruction, as families struggle to survive, under Northern occupation.

Having read the book, I can highly recommend it as great reading and a great description of the Texas landscape during this troubled period in our state and nation's history.

Ainsworth admits that the work is a "novel" but that the facts are clearly those that happened, and he has only added dialogue to make the story move more smoothly, as it unfolds.

He shared with me some interesting research techniques that he had uncovered during the course of his research, that will be beneficial to family researchers, that will be included in his presentation. And, of course, if you haven't purchased your copy of this latest novel, Jim will be signing books on Thursday night, also.

Make plans to join the Hopkins County Genealogical Society for a great and entertaining presentation, on Thursday night!
