The Next Generation of PBR Bulls
on Display, Saturday Morning in Civic Center
by: Bobby McDonald

There was "Backfire," "Super Cool Cat," "Bel Air," "Thumbs Up," and "Bee Bop," just to name a few. They are the next generation of the PBR Bucking Bulls and they were entered in the ABBI Futurity, on Saturday morning in the Hopkins County Regional Civic Center Arena.
"These bulls are two-year olds and they have come from all across the U.S. to compete in their age group competition, as the next generation of bucking bulls in the PBR," explained Donnie Gowin, with Superior Genetics, of Emory. "These young bulls are bucked and scored on their ability to buck with a 'dummy' attached to their back, as it simulates having a rider on their back."

"These young bulls are judged on their ability to buck, as they exit the chute, just like a regular bull does, once he enters the PBR line-up," stated Gowin. "He's asked to buck just like he will be when he is old enough and strong enough to join the PBR bulls. It's an opportunity for bull owners to see what their investment in these young bulls is worth, and to see if they will truly buck good enough to join the PBR."
Saturday morning's competition saw judges giving a score to the young bulls, as they were released from the chutes and given the opportunity to see how they will buck.
"This futurity is open to anyone with a two-year old bull, that they want to enter," explained one of the bull owners. "These bulls are laying the foundation for their bucking career, as two-year olds, with their owners hoping they make a great showing. There's some really talented young bulls 'coming up' to join the PBR bull list!"
