Whitewright Takes First Place In

Miller Grove Tournament

Miller Grove once again held their annual basketball tournament, bringing the best teams to participate in this event. Miller Grove, Saltillo, Lone Oak, Chess, Whitewright, Colleyville, Gateway, Wolfe City, Savoy, Cooper, Celeste, Chisum, Blue Ridge and Winnsboro gave their fans a weekend of high quality and professional basketball games.

 

 

 

It was an intense final as Whitewright and Colleyville went on a one on one match, leaving their heart, soul, sweat and tears on the court for that prestigious first place trophy. It was a close match that left their fans on the edge of their seats. Colleyville and Whitewright were going back to back, shooting and "swooshing" the ball through the net. At the end Whitewright would take the win 65-64 and take the first place trophy back home.

 

For the third place spot Saltillo and Winnsboro battle it out at Miller Grove Saturday night. "Our team gave a solid effort, Winnsboro played extremely hard and made it tough on us to run our offense." Commented Bill Giles. Saltillo indeed struggled, but managed to play it through and defeated Winnsboro 59-43 leaving them with a record of 10 - 1.

For the fourth place game, Miller Grove went against a tough Lone Oak. The Hornets had a tough time penetrating Lone Oaks defense on the first half of the game. It was an even game and both teams were giving "heck" of a game. After the half-time pep talk both teams came out with a different game face. Both teams were going all out, man on man, giving it their all and showing each other who was the best team. Miller Grove proved to Lone Oak that with perseverance anything is possible and came out with 52-51 win.

On the other side of the bracket for consolation, Yantis faced-off Chess and beat the Knights 41-34. "Yantis might be small in size, but they are big in heart and they have proved it in this tournament." Exclaimed a Yantis Fan.
