Friday Night Results, Saltillo 2010 Tournament:

Como-Pickton VS Saltillo

By: Luis Rasgado

"Who would have known that a friendly game could turn into such a battle field."

"When you don't go to a basketball game and the next thing you hear about the game is that it got "heat up" they truly mean it."

Como-Pickton and Saltillo played a game with high character, professionalism and left everything on the court until the very last second.

The first period of the game was a tied up one on one match and both teams were showing the same high quality basketball skills. "I have never seen two teams going at each other with such respect and with so much passion for the game." expressed a Saltillo fan.

Como-Pickton and Saltillo would end the first period tied 6-6.

After a short break both teams were ready to go and give their fans a "heck" of a game.

On the second period the fans could see two teams with determination, which motivated both sides to cheer for their teams.

Como-Pickton would start the second period taking the lead and played it smart, by playing defensively and attacking when possible, but Saltillo would soon counter attack and caught up with the Eagles. The game then turned into the "I shoot, you shoot" game. Both teams were going up, but the ball wasn't going through the hoops.

Saltillo would go into half time with a one point lead.

After the half-time pep talk, you could feel the tension in the gym. You could hear a pin drop in the distance as everybody was silent waiting for the ref to blow the whistle to start the second half of the game. Once that took place, both sides of the gym roar with "Lets Go Lions!" and "Lets Go Eagles."

The third period was the climax of the game and both teams started to feel the pressure from the fans as their cheer continued. Saltillo and Como-Pickton were still playing a clean game, until the pressure was just too much and the whole gym "blew up." Every play that both teams made was something to cheer up on, but an aggressive play was something to go against. The Eagles and the Lions were still playing competitive, but so were the fans.

The panorama of the fourth period was just like the 3rd. Como-Pickton was giving everything they could to catch up to Saltillo, but the time was their worst enemy. Saltillo would take the win and advance to Finals to play Saturday against Avery at 7:30p.m.
