An Opportunity of a Life Time!!
“Risking Everything”
By: Luis Rasgado
"It’s hard to leave the country that saw you be born, but it is harder to leave the country that saw you grow up."
I came to the United States at the age of six. Just like any little kid I was careless of what was going on around me my surroundings. When I arrived in the United States I didn't’t know any English or know anybody. I was scared, confused and all alone. I thought the world was coming to an end. Even though life was hard, I persevered and became the person I am now.
At least twice a month I would talk to my family in Mexico and that would always make my day, but the hardest would be to talk with my grandparents. It would be the same old story. When will you come back? You need to come back before I die!! It is pretty hard to go on with your day after those words are heard.
After almost thirteen years of leaving my home country I finally got the chance to return. The trip that I was to take was a journey not for pleasure or for fun. This trip to me meant an “Opportunity of a life time!!”
Many people don’t know this, but I “was” illegally in this country. It is really hard for me to admit it, but it’s the truth. It was really hard and embarrassing to tell people “I’m an illegal.”
On this trip, I had the opportunity to change my life. I had the chance to change my future, but it was not as easy as it seemed.
Risk, was a big factor. There was a high chance that I was not going to come back. If I wasn't able to get the “papers” I would have to say good-bye to everything that I had accomplished and start back from zero, in an unknown country, with different people and different customs.
It took a lot of thinking and a lot of stress, but I finally made my decision and took the RISK!!....................
Center Of Mexico City!!
I landed at exactly 8:00 p.m.
