Sulphur Springs High School roper, Dillon Dannheim, gets ready to compete at Saturday's
breakaway roping event.

Saturday, December 5th, local SSHS senior, Colton Lee, was serving as quarterback for the school's football team, in SMU Stadium. However, on Saturday and Sunday of this week, he joined his fellow competitors at the 4-States High School Rodeo, conducted in the Hopkins County Regional Civic Center, as he worked at another of his passions, calf roping.

Dannheim throws this loop in the tie-down calf roping competition.

He joined a number of local competitors in "throwing a loop," as they worked for points in the 4-States Rodeo Association sponsored event. A number of events were conducted for the youth from Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, and of course, Texas. Students are accumulating points for the finals that will be held in Sulphur Springs, next June.

competition, in the Civic Center.

"Roping is another of my passions, and now that the football season is over, I'm back to doing that on the weekend," allowed Lee. "Hopefully, I can win some money to pay for all that horse feed!"

Miller Grove High School senior, Dakota Hrabal, caught this calf and
tied him in the tie-down calf roping event.
