In the Gospel of John, when Jesus tells the disciples He is going to send the Helper or Comforter most people read it as Jesus saying, “I’ll make your bad day good.” when in reality what He was saying was, “I’ll send the covering of the New Covenant, the Holy Spirit.” The Holy Spirit, is there to do for you, what you cannot do for yourself. The downfall many times occurs, not because you don’t have Him but because you are not under Him. Just like an umbrella doesn’t stop the rain, it does stop the rain from getting on you. Likewise, a comforter on your bed doesn’t keep it from getting cold, rather, it keeps you warm in spite of the temperature. The obvious point being that it’s your choice as to whether or not you place yourself under His covering.

Being born again doesn’t directly correlate to you being under the Covering of the Covenant. You have access to the Covenant when Christ is in you, but you get the Covering when you are in Christ. Christ in you is legal access to salvation and eternal life. You in Christ is access to the power of the Covenant because you have brought yourself under the Covering. In other words, you can be ‘saved’ but not experiencing most of what that salvation entails because you still haven’t surrendered your life to Him. You’ve allowed Him to be Savior, but not Lord. Jesus said the troubles of this life are going to come. The amount of covering and protection you receive from those troubles results directly from how surrendered your life is to Him. – Love and Blessings, Pastor Jeff
