Luke 19:4
So he [Zacchaeus] ran on ahead and climbed up into a sycamore tree to see him, for he was about to pass that way.

Many people read this well-known passage from the viewpoint that poor Zacchaeus had get up in a tree just to get a quick sneak peek at Jesus as He went by. But was this really the case? Did he really have to get up in a tree? Was his intent to get to Jesus or was it just to over compensate for what he had allowed to become an inferiority complex. Think about who the Bible said Zacchaeus was. He was the chief tax collector, the bulliest of all the bullies if you will. In other words, after dealing with being short his entire life he let his inferiority become his motivation. He got validation from being able to throw his proverbial weight around amongst those who were physically greater than he was. Now, once again, he placed himself in a position where he could be ‘over’ those who he felt were over him. Rather than putting forth the effort to get close to Jesus, he was content with just saying that he had seen Him as He went by. Are there areas in your life that you are allowing a sense of inferiority to be your motivation rather than your relationship with the Lord? Do you find yourself wanting to be seen more than you want to be used for His purposes? Don’t allow the lies that come from a lack of relationship with the Lord tell you that you’re inferior and that you must find a way overcome that inferiority. He sees you! He loves you! He’s not content with you simply seeing Him from a distance. He is seeking a continual working relationship with you. So look for any areas in your life where you may be propping yourself up rather than pressing into Him and work on strengthening your relationship with Him in that area. – Love and Blessings, Pastor Jeff
